Film Questionnaire

Film Questionnaire

The next task is our final AS video task! Before I settle on a genre to begin researching I thought it would be useful to be able to understand which genre's appeal to who. Knowing this would be helpful when it comes to creating my video as I will have a clear idea of who my target audience would be and what the post popular genre is. That is why I have decided to create a very short questionnaire which includes these questions:

I will give this questionnaire to 40 people. 20 men and 20 women of various different ages.

Just Another Boyband Final Cut

Just Another Boyband Final Cut

Yesterday after posting a screengrab of me exporting my most recent video there was an error and I had to restart the exporting process. Then once it had finally exported I then had an issue with uploading my video onto my blog as the file was too large. So I then had to upload my video to Vimeo where I also had problems uploading to I gave up trying at school and then didn't find the time to upload it last night.

But I did manage to upload the video onto Vimeo earlier today. So here it is mine and Amy's 'Just Another Boyband'. To watch just click the link below:

P.S. The reason why only the first scene's was posted was because that those were the storyboards that I drew up. Amy drew up the second scene and still has not uploaded them despite being reminded multiple times. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Almost Complete

Almost Complete

Today I filmed the finishing touches to mine and Amy's 'Just Another Boyband' project on continuity. I filmed with the girlband we created called 'Pick 'N' Mix'. The structure of this scene is the same as the way 'Aztec Funkeys' entered the waiting room. This is the footage I planned to use for my end credits.

All week I have been editing through my lunch times to ensure I got the video complete. Unfortunately, I have not fully completed my video as I still need to add titles and credits and there are a few issues with sound and effects which I need the help of Mr. Earl who sadly has been ill this week. I am going to continue to edit over lunch time tomorrow to hopefully at least have the opening titles complete and I expect the video to be completed and uploaded to my blog by the end of Monday.

This has been a difficult video to produce but the effort we have made to try and get the video right proves just how hard working and determined Amy and I can be.

Storyboard of Scene One

Storyboard of Scene One

These are the storyboards that I drew up for scene one! Amy should be scanning in the storyboards ASAP. This is a before the boardroom interview between Caroline Flapjack and Aztec Funkeys. The interviewer calms the act before they enter the room and face the judges.

Shooting Issues

Shooting Issues

To add to the previous issues that occurred with filming and to add to the time pressure we had a major issue when attempting to shoot today.

We started filming over last week whenever we all had a free lesson or lunch that all the cast and crew could attend. The room we filmed in was the Fibonacci room. Unfortunately, that room is being used for an exhibition for the next two weeks which means that we cannot continue to film in that room. luckily there were only a few seconds of filming left to do in there which we could find a way around... hopefully.

We filmed our first scene today in Kepler so we did not need to use Fibonacci for this particular scene.

Another issue was that Niall did not bring the same shoes that he had previously been wearing again we managed to use angles in our favour to ensure that you could not see his feet.

All that is left to film now is the scene with Pick 'n' Mix for the end credits.

I have already begun the editing process and will hopefully meet Thursday's deadline by going in over a few lunches this week.

Creating J.A.B Storyboard

Creating J.A.B Storyboard

In today's media lesson Amy and I continued creating our storyboards for our project. I actually finished the storyboard for scene one which I will upload a copy of tonight. We will also brief the actors about us continuing our shoot tomorrow in order to start editing the footage next week.

Problems on Set

Problems on Set

In today's lesson we re-started our story boards as I changed the script. They will be uploaded within the next two days.

We also began shooting today! This proved to be extremely stressful and I wouldn't be surprised if I woke up tomorrow with a full head of grey hair. Directing a group of boys ... and Amy was a challenge hahaha. The first issue I was faced with while checking my messages in tutor was a message to say that one of our actors couldn't make the shooting time. Thankfully Charlie was at hand to fill in as 'Robin Thin' so that issue was resolved quickly. The next issue was that the room we initially wanted was in use at the time we wished to shoot we then compromised to use Fibonacci which in the end turned out quite well. The original plan was to film during third lesson, have a short break for lunch then to resume shooting over the duration of lunch but Fibonacci was in use over lunch so we will need to go back another day this week most likely over a lunch to complete filming. A few actors did not bring their costumes so this was also an issue they were asked to and reminded but did not. As we only had an hour to get set up, changed into custumes and to film we were very pushed for time. I am bossy and the best of times and the actors were just messing around playing guitar, talking and mainly wasteing valuable shooting time and I lost patients and shouted 'SHUT UP!' far too many times. Working with a larger cast who don't pay attention with a short amount of time was very difficult.

Credits

Credits

As the current project is on continutity it needs to show a sense of realism. So when the band 'Aztec Funkeys' leave the board room the show would not just be over then as the next act would enter. Which is why for the credits of our project I came up with the idea of rolling the credits over the next act entering the boardroom. The band are 'Pick 'N' Mix' and are a very girly girlband. To reflect their bubble gum pop look I have chosen the song Bring It All Back - S Club 7. The song also goes well with the idea of the show and the video in general as the message is to 'never give up' and this would link in as one member of 'Aztec Funkeys' is being kicked off the show.

Here is the song

X-Factor Editing

X-Factor Editing

I am going to finish up my story board for 'Just another Boyband' in my media lesson tomorrow but for now to get some idea's of the way they edit and use camera angles I have been watching video's from this years X-Factor auditions.

The video below is of X-Factor contestant Sam Bailey (my personal favourite).

Sam Bailey's X-Factor Audition 2013

From the video you can see that they love to use the fade to black effect A LOT.

In the audition room when Sam is singing it consistently cuts to show the reaction of the judges and this allows the audience to have a full understanding of what is happening throughout the room and also how the judges are responding and this shows the audience their emotions.

As I am working with Amy for this project the footage we use will the same but edited slightly differently. As there is no element of surprise in watching pretty much the same video twice I thought I might add in the bit at the start where it's a montage of the auditionee's waiting around and of them introducing themselves. This will mean our work will be different.

We start filming tomorrow in third period which will extend over some of lunch time.

'Just another Boyband' Script

'Just another Boyband' Script

I have just finished writing the plot and script for mine and Amy's video. This is the first draft and I am going to E-mail this to Amy in the morning before I send it to the cast.

Here it is. Any feedback or improvements are encouraged!

‘Just another Boyband’ Script

Scene One
The band walks through the corridor looking extremely nervous. They are greeted by the show’s presenter who attempts to calm their nerves. It is the second stage of the competition and the band has been called to see the presenters and are about to enter the boardroom.

Caroline Flapjack: Hello boys, how are you feeling?
Robin Thin: We’re quite nervous.
Alex Turnoff: We all felt like our first audition was our best performance of our careers but one judge didn’t agree.
Niall Whoreman: Yeah we have Louis Welsh to thank for Aztec Funkeys making it to the second stage of the competition.
Caroline Flapjack: So Nicole gave you a no last time? Do you feel as if you have something to prove this time around?
Band: Yeah.
Alex Turnoff: Definitely
Kanye East: We need to show her how serious we are about our music yo
Caroline Flapjack: Well you better get in there then. Good luck boys.

Scene Two
The band enters the room and sits down in silence. The judges are already in the room.

Louis Welsh: Hi boys
Nicole Scherdancer: Welcome back
Louis Welsh: In your first audition you impressed me with your passion and enthusiasm. Personally I thought it was a great audition
Band: Thanks Louis
Nicole Scherdancer: You were definitely enthusiastic but I’m just not sure you’re right for the competition.
Niall whoreman: This is our life. We have so much riding on this it means everything to us.
Louis Welsh: I can feel your determination
Nicole Scherdancer: I think you need to fight for it.
Louis Welsh: As a compromise, as I think you have potential and Nicole disagrees, we have decided that to you need to earn your place in this competition.
Nicole Scherdancer: Aztec Funkeys is becoming a three piece band.
Louis Welsh: Show us what you can do and what this competition means to you.
Kanye East: Yo I’m doing this for the music and for my baby girl North East.
Robin Thin: My true inspiration is my late great late great grandma.
Alex Turnoff: My hamster Angela has a serious bone disease and I’m here raising awareness. Hamster owners will be able to relate to me.
Niall Whoreman: I own a potato farm back in Ireland really needs a rejuvenation and this competition will help me achieve that.
Each band member improvises an act to impress the judges.

Creating a Vimeo Account

Creating a Vimeo Account

Vimeo is almost an essential for people whole make short films etc and it is perfect for media students like us. So I thought it was important to make an account myself. I have been meaning to make an account for a while but never got round to actually doing it ... until now!

From this point I will upload the video's I make in media onto Vimeo and I also plan to upload the video's I have have made previously.
